Early Initiation of Treatment Delays Development of Multiple Sclerosis
The results of a clinical trial examining the efficacy
of interferon-beta-1a (Avonex ) in patients at high
risk of developing clinically definite multiple
sclerosis (CDMS) were reported during the Late
Breaking News: MS Platform Session held May 1,
2000. at the 52nd Annual Meeting of the American
Academy of Neurology, San Diego. California.
In an interview after the session. Dr. Paul
O'Connor. a Canadian CHAMPS investigator,
stated, "These interesting and exciting results
suggest that interferons work best in MS when
given earlier rather than later in the disease,"
